Player Analysis: Marcus Alonso

Chelsea have revamped their backline with Kante, Luiz, and Alonso all coming in to shore up their ageing backline, but how will they lineup?

Alonso is a big player they've just brought in. We all know about Luiz and Kante and what they have to offer, but where does Alonso fit in?

He was a deadline day buy from Fiorentina for £23 million.

Conte has fielded the same back in all of Chelsea's games this season, but has complained about the lack of backup players. With Luiz and Alonso things will change, and Conte may even move into his preferred 352/532 formation with 2 wing backs.

Alonso is able to play at centre-back, but his preferred position is left wing. Conte may well choose to play Alonso on the left wing and move Azpilicueta to his preferred position on the right. Ivanovic may drop to the bench or into a back three alongside Luiz and Cahill. Terry is also expected to drop to the bench with Luiz going straight into the starting 11.

It may take Alonso a while to get up to speed. He's missed the double-training sessions over the summer, and it will take him some time to fit into Conte's complex tactical system.

Alonso is an awesome crosser of the ball and has a lot of attacking talent. Last season he recorded more goals and assists than any other player in Europe's top leagues. He also clinched the man of the match award in his last game for Fiorentina.

Alonso is a free-kick expert and will get his fair share of set-pieces while playing. Diego Costa will certainly benefit from his dangerous crosses in the box.

The biggest worry for Chelsea will be his defensive qualities. He's not a man-marker and Conte will not be forgiving if they concede goals because of him as was sometimes the case at Fiorentina.

All in all, Alonso is a very exciting prospect, and although we don't expect him to go straight into Chelsea's starting 11, when he does get a chance, he could definitely be a massive fantasy asset with both clean sheet and attacking potential, he's the perfect fantasy footballer.

Will you be putting him into your draft fantasy football this season?
